MEXICO — Peaks Island author and illustrator, Anne Sibley O’Brien will visit the students of Meroby Elementary School on March 3-4, with an evening performance on that Monday from 6-7 p.m.
O’Brien’s work celebrates the glorious variety of the human family, through expressive portraits of diverse children and cultures. In large-group assemblies and individual classrooms, O’Brien will present the writing and illustrating process through lively, interactive digital slide shows with a focus on human differences, and offers hands-on drawing activities to extend learning.
O’Brien’s titles are rich resources for curriculum connections, from the ethical questions raised in Jamaica’s Find and six other titles in the Jamaica series; to portraits of new Americans in A Path of Stars and Moon Watchers: Shirin’s Ramadan Miracle; to Asian history and language lessons in the graphic-novel retelling, The Legend of Hong Kil Dong: The Robin Hood of Korea; to the drama of contemporary non-violence across the world in After Gandhi: One Hundred Years of Nonviolent Resistance.
